🌾 The Sacred Story of Indra Kanya & The Nine Millets
Long ago, when the earth faced drought and people struggled to find nourishing food, the gods looked upon humanity with compassion. It is believed that Indra Dev, the god of rain and prosperity, sent his divine daughter — Indra Kanya — to earth with a sacred mission.
She carried with her nine precious seeds, gifted by nature itself. These were not ordinary grains but powerful millets, capable of growing even in harsh conditions and nourishing generations with strength, energy, and resilience.
Indra Kanya travelled across villages, teaching farmers how to cultivate these crops with respect for nature. The seeds required little water, protected the soil, and provided wholesome nutrition to families. Soon, communities flourished again — children grew stronger, farmers became self-reliant, and harmony returned between humans and the land.
These sacred grains came to be known as Navadhanya Millets, symbolizing health, sustainability, and divine abundance.
Today, millets like Ragi, Jowar, Bajra, Foxtail, Little Millet, Kodo, Barnyard, Proso, and Browntop continue this ancient legacy — nourishing bodies while protecting the planet.
